View product →Marine engine oils operate in three distinct duties — cylinder oil (large 2-stroke), trunk piston engine oil (medium-speed 4-stroke), and system oil (crosshead lubrication and bearing service). Each calls for a different additive strategy. The cylinder oil's job is to neutralise sulfuric acid formed from fuel sulfur — so TBN is everything, ranging from 25 BN for low-sulfur VLSFO operation to 100 BN for older HSFO bunker fuel.
Trunk piston engine oils balance TBN with detergency, dispersancy, and anti-wear performance comparable to a heavy-duty diesel oil — but with additional protection against the residual fuel asphaltenes that medium-speed engines often see. System oils prioritise oxidation stability and water tolerance over engine-deposit performance.
